During this year’s Bushwick Open Studios creator, painter and cultural writer Sharon Butler celebrated the 5th anniversary of Two Coats of Paint by inviting Austin Thomas of Pocket Utopia to curate an exhibition of paintings at Two Coat’s new Bushwick headquarters.
The exhibition included artists, Margaret Atkinson, Guy C. Corriero, Lawrence Greenberg, and Edie Nadelhaft and was kicked off with a an artist’s reception on Friday followed by discussions on painting and art throughout the weekend.
The reception was hailed as a great success. Hundreds of people, including numerous notable artists and journalists including, Don Voisine, Harriet Korman, Mira Schor and Susanna Heller stopped by to wish Two Coats of Paint a happy anniversary. Guests charmingly recorded advice for artists breaking into the art world on Sharon’s timeworn Royal Safari typewriter. An assortment of suggestions from the practical (how to clean your brushes) to the less obvious (not to force content) were recorded on the typewriter.
Since the spring of 2007, Two Coats of Paint has shared news, reviews, and commentary on contemporary painting and related subjects and continues to be widely read and praised by the art community. We at Nectar Ads want to congratulate Two Coats of Paint and Sharon Butler on five successful years and on her influential role as a leader within the thriving community of artists in Brooklyn and beyond.
